Joan was born in Reading, on June 13, 1935, a daughter of the late Edith (Shanley) and Paul Reitenauer. She was the widow of Marvin N Hohl. They were married for 61 years. Mr. Hohl died Sept. 18, 2013.
Joan graduated from Reading High School.
She was a New York Times Best Selling Author of over 60 published romance novels; which were printed and sold worldwide through various publishing houses, such as
Silhouette and Harlequin.
Joan began writing at the age of 40, and three years later published her first novel. She is considered a trailblazer in sensuous romance writing, and having been one of, if not the first, author to write male point of view in category
romance novels. She also published novels under the names of Paula Roberts and Amii Lorin.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Lori J., partner of James Penturelli Speck, of Shoemakersville, Amy J. Fox,
of Mt. Penn and a brother, Bruce (Sonny) Reitenauer.
She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Erica L., wife of Christopher Kieslich, and Cammeron G., husband of LeeAnn Kline, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jaden, Kieran, Sorin and Rowan.
She was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude (Mick)
Hunsberger.
Services are private at the convenience of family.
The Sanders Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 1501 North 11th Street, Reading, is in charge of the
arrangements.

As a romance reader I enjoyed Joan's local settings, and though I rarely buy romance books any more she was on the list of any thing she writes authors that my old storemates were allowed to charge to me and mail to VT.
