Greta L. Trygstad May 17, 1930 - June 20, 2018 Vista Greta L. Trygstad, a longtime resident of Vista, CA, passed away on June 20, 2018. Greta was born in Panama and attended 22 schools due to her father's military service prior to graduating from San Dieguito High. She also graduated from Oceanside-Carlsbad Junior College (now Mira Costa College) and attended SDSU where she majored in Art and Education. Greta married Kenneth Trygstad and as a Marine wife participated in Staff NCO Wives' Clubs. She spent a year employed as an aircraft draftsman by the Naval Aviation Depot in Norfolk, VA. Greta was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where she held a variety of leadership roles in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She served as President of the Grapevine Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association and held a number of other PTA offices. Greta was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, a Band Booster for Vista High, and volunteered for TERI Inc. benefitting children and adults with special needs. She was very active in San Dieguito High Alumni events. Greta was unfailingly generous with her time, sharing her art, her volunteerism, and taking care of the neighborhood kids. She always welcomed and fed everyone, and never passed up an opportunity for a pun. Greta was preceded in death by her husband Ken and her siblings, Jean, Frank, Marcelle, and Jim. She is survived by her sister, MaryLee Cook, and her children, Ray Trygstad (Lynn), Steve Trygstad (Linda), Tracey (Brad Crawford) and grandchildren Andrew (Andrea), Derek (Brenna), Blair (Andrew Stowe), Gunnar, Noelle, John, Ian, and Kendall. A memorial service for Greta will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, August 26th at Faith Lutheran Church, 700 E. Bobier Drive, Vista, CA. Please RSVP to or (442) 224-3402. Greta always had a smile and handshake when I came to early service as a new member. She sat in the same row, beautifully attired in a hat matching her dress. Enjoyed talking to her.
