Raymond Ellis Obituary
Ray Ellis, 89, passed away May 26, 2012 in Oak Harbor, WA. He was born August 8, 1922 in Auburn, WA to Raymond O. & Louise (Waters) Ellis. He graduated from high school in Auburn and went on to graduate from WSU with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He established the first veterinary clinic in Oak Harbor in 1946.
Doc's love of music and the trumpet took him through high school, college and beyond to play with local bands such as the Oak Harbor Community Band, The Hi Tides, and the Sea Notes. He belonged to and was a charter member of many community organizations; he served on the Oak Harbor City Council and was the Mayor of Oak Harbor from 1960 to 1972.
A memorial service for Doc will be held at the Grace by the Sea Church in Oak Harbor Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.

I will miss Doc's sense of humor. He always seemed so good natured. I remember when he wore a button that said, "trust me, I'm a doctor". He will be missed.

My mother Nancy and I always looked forward to greeting Doc and Jan in the dining room at Regency on Whidbey while their table was near hers. When Doc and Nancy smiled, it could light up the room! I'm sorry for your loss, Jan. Blessings to you and all the family.

Doc there could not have been a better man than you were to me when I was a kid working for you at the clinic. You taught me to play tennis. I practiced banging balls on the side of the clinic, the noise must of drove every body nuts but you encouraged me to keep going. I got into snakes, raccoons,chipmunks, guinea pigs you name it until l I had almost all the kennels filled with my stuff. You never said a word except to encourage me to be myself. I remember Ed Morgans dog Max. he was very sick and Ed brought him in and it was decided to put him down. Ed left and you decided to give it awhile. It took along time but you brought that dog back to health. You surprised Ed with a healthy Max. That may have been the first time I ever saw a grown man cry. I slammed the kennel door on a little dachshound named snitzels tail. You did not fire me you talked to me about care and responsibility and covered for me.You did things like that Doc, for my self I will not forget you and your kindness and I know I belong to a big group of folks that say amen to that. We wish to offer our condolences to Ray's family. Lyall and I have fond memories of "Dr. Ellis", especially with our music involvement. Lyall says he remembers him "zipping up and down the Island in his 50"s Chevrolet"! Love, Judy and Lyall
