November 23, 1919 - June 14, 2009Charles W. Burdick, Capt., retired US Army , age 89, passed away in Gainesville, FL, June 14, 2009 after an extended illness. He was a native of Suwannee County, son of the late Maxon S. And Annie Oliver Burdick. He was predeceased by his wife , Dorothy K. Burdick; his brother, Winston S. Burdick, and a step-son, David Kehler.He graduated from Suwannee High School in 1936 and was a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago and the University of New Mexico. He joined the Army in January 1940 and served in both the Pacific and European Theaters before retiring in July 1960. After retiring from the military he taught mathematics at Valley High School in Albuquerque, NM and served as chairman of the department until retirement in 1982. His hobby was trap and skeet shooting and after his wife passed away he was a frequent traveler. He was a life member of Helena Lodge # 1, F and AM , Huntsville. AL, NRA, Golden Eagles, Reserve officers Association, Retired Officers Association, VFW, American Legion, National Skeet Shooting Association, Pacific International Trapshooting Association, and National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. He is survived by his sister, Doris B. Thomas (Stan) of Lake City, FL, 3 nephews William S, Burdick of Lodge , SC; Robert W. Burdick of Greenwood, CO; Stanley Thomas, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL; one niece, Tammy T. Friedlander of Clearwater, FL, eleven great-nieces and nephews and twenty-three great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are step-daughter Susan K. Cook of Albuquerque, NM, a step-grandson Stephen Cook of Torrence, CA; a step-granddaughter Michelle Cook of Albuquerque, NM as well as several other step-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Pinegrove United Methodist Church Cemetery on County Rd 136 A in Suwannee County on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jake Richardson and Mr. Bill Burdick officiating.
