North Stonington - Richard M. Gavitt Sr., 94, of Avery Lane, North Stonington, passed away at his home surrounded by family Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Collins) Gavitt. Richard was born in Westerly, the son of the late Oliver and Margaret Gavitt.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cherenzia Excavation for many years until his retirement. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II.

He leaves behind his grandson Shane Fiore; and granddaughter Shilo R. Noon, both of North Stonington; and great-grandson Chace Fiore. Richard was predeceased by his son Richard Gavitt Jr.; his daughter Pamela C. Gavitt; one brother; and two sisters.

Thinking of you, Shane and Shilo, and Chace during this sad time. I remember your grandfaher ( great grandfather) well from my NS " village" days. He always had a smile and a hello .
