Buford Pitman Obituary

Dec. 24, 1924 - Aug. 27, 2008

Buford Edward Pitman, 83, of College Station, Texas, passed away on August 27, 2008, after a brief illness. A memorial service is set for 11:45 a.m. Sunday, August 31, at the meeting place of the Brazos Valley Church of Christ, the Wellborn Community Center, 419 Greens Prairie Road, College Station, Texas 77845, with son John, son-in-law G.K. Pennington and grandson Mark Wiebe officiating. Burial will follow at Wellborn Cemetery in College Station, Texas.

He was born December 24, 1924 in Corpus Christi, Texas, a son of James B. and Lula A. Bloxom Pitman. Buford was a dedicated minister to thousands in congregations of the churches of Christ in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New York, as well as LLoydminister, Saskatchewan, and Red Deer, Alberta.

Buford died as he lived, in prayer and praise to God, and surrounded by his family. He will be remembered as a dedicated servant to the Lord, husband, and father. He was a colorful storyteller, teacher of the gospel, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean; four sisters and three brothers.

He is survived and honored by his wife of almost 62 years, Margie Oleta Pitman; children and their spouses, Jo and G.K. Pennington of Vienna, W. Va., Andrew and Cindy Pitman of Sterling, Va., John and Stacey Pitman of Memphis Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to the Brazos Valley Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 12288, College Station, Texas 77845-2288
