Kate CRAIG Obituary

CRAIG, Kate
On July 23, 2002 at Storm Bay, British Columbia, of cancer. Born Catherine Shand Craig on September 15, 1947, Kate Craig was a noted artist and one of the first in Canada to explore the medium of video art. A co-founder of the Western Front Society in 1973, she initiated an artist-in-residence program there in 1976, inviting artists from across Canada and other countries to produce new works for video. Her own 'Delicate Issue' won the Canadian Video Open in 1979 and is recognized as an important work. A retrospective was presented by the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1998. Kate Craig is survived by her mother, Sidney Shadbolt, her brother James, her husbands Eric Metcalfe and Hank Bull, and by her many friends. Donations in her name may be made to the Western Front Foundation where they will contribute to an endowment fund.
