MARVIN JOHN FOY February 15, 1937 - July 3, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marvin John Foy, peacefully in his 75th year. Beloved and devoted husband to Eileen for 51 years and devoted father to Mary Lynn (Ron), Martin (Donna), Paul (Julie), Chris (Justine), Kevin (Heather) and grandfather to Patrick, Grant, Ryan, Brendan, Alison, Erin, Justin, Lauren, Taylor, Keaton, Connor and Madelyn. Brother to Paul (Roma) and Wayne (Amy) and brother-in-law to John (Alison), Michael (Anna) and Cecilia (Frank). Marv was an avid jazz drummer in his youth and enjoyed playing the guitar in his retirement years. He had a passion for sports such as golf and hockey and was a Junior A/Junior B coach in his younger years. He was a long standing member of the Summit Golf & Country Club in Richmond Hill. Marvin was involved with various charitable organizations, primarily the Prostate Cancer Society and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus with roles as Grand Knight for Thornhill Council No. 8340 and Stouffville Council No. 10874, as well as a District Deputy. Professionally he started and ran his own Graphic Design and Printing firm for 25 years, which is still in operation today. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Sunnybrook Schulich Heart Centre for their incredible support and care. Family and friends will be received at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street North (Markham Road), Markham, on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 345 Glad Park Ave., Stouffville, on Monday at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prostate Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

To the Foy Family
I read with deep regret the passing of Marvin. My late father Claude Ferlatte always recalled with much fondness the great times spent with Marv during Knights of Columbus years and those at Good Shepherd. I was so nice to see Marvin at my Dad's funeral in Dec. 2003. We lost our mom Anne in June 2010 but my sister Jacqueline Gurley ( Malcolm Gurley Jr.) joins me in send our deep sympathies.

Eileen & family. Diana & I just returned from a trip last night and with much sadness I read your e-mail about Marv's passing. As you know Marv & I were very close friends in high school in Ridgetown. Marv & I reconnected just a couple of years ago and met for lunch in Chattanooga. We were unable to meet this spring but planned to get together when we came to Canada later this year. I will miss that meeting with much regret and also our annual lunches. May God bless all of you and give each of you His strength & comfort as only He can. Love, John Wood

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. It was great to see Mr Foy so recently at Father Webber's dinner and have a nice chat with him. Mr Foy had not changed since I remembered him as a very young girl (still laughing with a big, kind heart).

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Marv and offer our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of playing hockey with Marv and his sons over the years at Chesswood arena. Marvin was always a gracious and loyal teammate and a wonderful on-ice coach.

He will be dearly missed by all.

I was six the first time I met Marv. I was asked to be his and Eileen's flower girl at their wedding. All I knew about him was that he played the drums like Ringo Star and that was good enough for me.
I lost my two front teeth the week before the wedding and my Mom told me not to smile during the whole celebration for fear of showing my missing teeth.
Well, I may not have smiled at Marv and Eileen's wedding but I have made up for it over the many years of laughs and wonderful memories we have shared as a family.
He was a fun Uncle-in-law. My Mom adored him and he was a great friend to my Dad.
I am blessed to have been part of his and his family's life and I will truly miss him.

Dear Donna and family ---Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all during these very sad days. Marvin's sudden passing is indeed sad. I got to know Marvin through the Knights of Columbus and will remember him for all his assistance to our Council during some very difficult "start up" days. Dear Martin, Donna & the Foy family:
Our deep condolences & heartfelt sympathy go out to you all at Marvin's sudden passing.

Yet his spirit lives on, not only with his Maker, but also with you his family, his many friends, his fellow musicians, his brother Knights of Columbus, as well as all those whose lives he touched during his fruitful life, such as simple folks like ourselves who had the honour of meeting him!

As St Paul said: He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has received his reward! Marvin was in the biblical sense a very "gentle man". May he rest in peace.

May God's "Amazing Grace" be with you all in the difficult days ahead! Love, Blessings & Hugs,
Theresa & Paul-Raymond

My condolences to those who knew and loved Marvin. I was a year behind Marvin J. Foy, (as he introduced himself in those days), at De La Salle Oaklands. He was a great snare drummer, funny, positive, and always smiling. Great memories from 60 years ago.

My sincere condolences. I'm saddened to hear of Marv's passing. I worked for Marv as his assistant from 1978 through 1981, when he was General Sales Manager at North York Chev-Olds and Kane Chev-Olds. He was one of the nicest people I've ever known. He left an indelible impression on me. I carry many fond memories from that time. May he rest in peace.

My favourite memories of Uncle Marv are of him in the basement on Clansman at the yearly Christmas charades party. Every girlfriend but mostly boyfriend (Ron Lewis!) had to be initiated into the family by meeting and getting teased by the infamous Marv. I was lucky enough to see him at the finish line at The Ride in June where he greeted me with some snarky remark about how long it took me. I loved it :)
May wonderful memories like these be shared and cherished by the Foy family in this time of great sorrow.
