Ronald RISTAU Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jan. 9 to Jan. 14, 2015.

Ronald Frederick Ristau
May 16,1928 - January 7, 2015
Ron Ristau died January 7, 2015 at 11:10 a.m. at Sherbrooke Community Centre with Pat, his loving wife of 56 years, by his side. Earlier that morning Wes, a musician at Sherbrooke, sang his favourite hymn How Great Thou Art for him, and the chaplain visited. A short time later he died peacefully, holding Pat's hand. Ron was predeceased by his parents, William and JaneAnn (Ritchie), and siblings Bill, Basil and Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Pat (Nunnerley); daughter, Pam and son Ted, (Joy); grandchildren, Nadia and Tasha, along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron was born in Delisle but grew up and lived his entire life in Saskatoon. It was while attending high school at Nutana Collegiate that he joined a group of friends in forming the Diamond Athletic Association. It was originally about sports but this group, and later their wives and families, remained close lifelong friends. Ron (known to his wife as Ronnie the Realtor) sold residential real estate for 44 years. He was the first salesman to be president of the SREA in 1970, and became an honorary life member when he retired. Ron enjoyed curling and curled every week, all winter, for most of his life. In 1962 he was the president of the Granite Curling Club, and that same year went to the northern play downs with Glenn Richardson. No, they didn't win, but it was a thrill to be there. He also participated and won in the first summer bonspiel at Rosetown. Ron loved to golf, especially at Waskesieu, where the family had a cabin for 29 years. He attended many senior Lobsticks and even won something one year. No, not a flight, but close to it! Fishing in the far north, as soon as the ice went out in May, was a yearly ritual with five of his Diamond buddies. Jackfish were his preference, and he traded with others for all he could bring home for a year's supply. Later in life Ron suffered from dementia, and has spent the last four years at Sherbrooke. The family would like to thank them for making a home for him at Kinsmen House 7, and for their love, respect and compassionate care during this time. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Prairie View Cremation and Memorial Services (306) 242-7884.

Aunt Pat, Ted, Pam, Joy and Girls. So very sorry we are unable to attend the Celebration of Life. Aunt Shirley`s Birthday was on January 12, and all I could think of, was the whole Family were together to help her celebrate. I have so many Good memories of Uncle Ron, Uncle Bill and Dad. When they got together, they had so much fun. I`m sure Heaven will never be the same now they are all together again. Love you. Valorie and Angelo.

Pat, Pam & Ted, I'm thinking of you and of Ron, whom I was privileged to know for not near long enough. I recall the many times the gang gathered at the Richardson home for good times, good laughter, a few drinks and a lot of chilli. My parents are both now gone but were they not this would be a very sad day for them, as it is for me. I extend to you my sincere condolences at this difficult time.
