Brother paul

Back In chem class of 1979 at Central Jr High, I like so many would see you walk the beat in the name of the lord. I wonder if you ever figured it out, that the son of god was the SUN and you were solar powered.

Brother Paul, we take solace in your knowing of how much we love you .. forever and ever, Amen.

I have done what was mine to do; may Christ teach you what you are to do. Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.

How often I saw this humble, quiet brother walking back to the Franciscan monastery from his service at the soup kitchen. "Eternal Memory" dear servant of Christ. Now may you feast at the heavenly banquet among the saints.

Rest In Peace Bro. Paul.
You have gone on to your much deserved reward!
I worked downtown and I too use to see him walking around with great purpose and speed!
He looked like such an interesting and intriguing person.
I'm sorry to say I never spoke to him.
May GOD Bless You and Keep you in His Tender care, dear Sir!

I am going to miss seeing Brother Paul walk up Fort Street almost daily. Even in the latter years, he struggled valiantly with his walker. I will always remember his words of wisdom after my Grandmother died back in February 1980. I will miss you!!!

Eternal rest, grant unto Br. Paul O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
And may all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

I miss you, my friend. I will miss our talks and your gentle wisdom and kindness. Though I am sorry that you are gone, but I am grateful that you are at peace. I hope you are enjoying a good chat with Winston Churchill.

I used to see Brother Paul walking vigorously in his much-repaired brown robe and rope belt, back and forth from the friary on Joan Crescent to the cathedral downtown. He was a familiar sight to downtown workers and the residents of Rockland. He walked by my little bachelor suite on Rockland Avenue nearly every day while I sat at my kitchen table, as an older student, studying chemistry. He was 59 in 1982. I was 29. I saw him for years on the streets of Victoria and I always wanted to speak to him, but I never had the courage to approach him or the desire to be lectured, which is so often the result of conversation with religionists.
In the summer of 82, when I was studying to become a Catholic, I felt safe in finally approaching him one day in front of the cathedral, where he was sweeping. He surprised me with a volley of energetic and small c catholic opinion. He told me the Catholic Church and its fulfilment would never be complete until the West was joined with the East, or rejoined, since Jesus was a man of the East. I was pleasantly gobsmacked to hear him say so. I then went many times to mass at St Joseph's Friary where he served at the altar. For me, Brother Paul was the image of old-school Catholic religious life done right. RIP, Brother Paul.
