Michael was a big help to my mother, Doris Stastny. She and we, her children, really appreciated his advice, especially after she developed Alzheimer's Disease and passed away. I never met Michael myself, but I heard from my brother, Mike, how much he was appreciated. Mike said, "He was Mother's friend for many years in legal matters and he really did well for her and for us." We are sorry for your loss.

Truly an advocate, Mike helped to gently advise & wisely counsel many moves between communities & provinces & life circumstances over 30 years. Fond thoughts of Mike, may his memory be a blessing, Kath.

Mike will be sadly missed, he was a friend to all my family. The stories my Mother (Agnes Long) used to tell about the ups and downs of Law. I really owe a great deal to Mike, he always looked out for me in any business venture I dove into. Rest in peace my friend.

Mike had a "larger than life" personality that, upon meeting him, you didn't soon forget-a friendly, personable man that didn't take long for you to get to know! A great partner on the racquetball court, with a reach that you swear could cover both sidewalls! He will be missed by all who called him a friend, but especially his family who knew the man intimately! Our condolences go out to you all....

On behalf of the Shawnigan Lake Boys School class of 1963 (a slightly younger group) I extend deepest sympathies to Mike's Family and friends. When the junior house on the hill was made a full house it was void of senior members to fill the age gap and the prefects positions. Mike was transplanted from the main school to control and mentor the little brats and what a job he did, we worshiped the big guy. He is well remembered for his tolerance, patients and kindness.

My deepest condolences to the family of Mike on his passing. We, who practised in Victoria, affectionately referred to Mike as "THE FRIENDLY GIANT". Mike was genial, intelligent, efficient and a cool Dude who never displayed the arrogance endemic in the legal profession. My friend, IN PACE REQUIESCAT.

So sorry to learn of Mike's passing. We enjoyed many happy years together at Cook, Roberts and Whittaker, and MJW was one of the hardest working partners. Yes, he made it home for dinner, but then he would come back to the office and sometimes stay there to the wee hours of the morning. I remember coming to the office one morning and finding him asleep on the floor. He carried a heavy load in the late 70s and 80s, sometimes with 7 or 8 secretaries supporting him in a very busy conveyancing practice. Mike was very loyal to his clients, and had a good way with them. WE as partners had lots of fun together, and I will always remember our early times together having hilarious lunches at Barney's Hideaway, and will fondly remember our annual retreats. Yes, I remember the VW van and trips in it to Mt. Baker to go skiing. I also remember his Honda Civic where he wrapped his knees around the steering wheel while driving too fast most of the time. And yes, he followed sports avidly and was a great sportsman himself, and supported Ty and Chris, equally adept athletes, through a host of sports, even coaching in the early days. I know Mike's last years were tough on him and on the family, and I wish he had a more fulfilling retirement. RIP Mikey

My condolences to the family. When I was young Michael and Kathy were a wonderful addition to our neighbourhood on Guernsey st. I baby sat for them often and walked Hoover the basset hound. Michael often joined the neighbourhood soccer games at Layfayette park. We used to chuckle at Mike, one of his cars was a little red toyota or datsun ? and seeing as he was so tall he had to put the seat way back to get enough leg room. we would see him heading off to work in the morning and it almost looked like he was sitting in the back seat . He was not only my parents lawyer but a good friend also, my parents spoke fondly of him often. Very sorry to hear he has gone so soon.
