COLUMBIA - Dr. Henrietta Schleider Farber died on Monday, February 14, 2011. She was born on April 22, 1915 as the youngest child of Sheamon and Julia Keller in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She was the last surviving sibling with her 3 brothers, Jake Keller, Abraham Keller, and George Keller and 2 sisters, Sarah Salkin and Charlotte Rosin predeceasing her. Henrietta graduated from Oil City High School and went to the Ohio School of Chiropody graduating in 1936. It was at that school that she met Harold Schleider, a fellow student in her class. They married following the graduation ceremony and began their practice of chiropody in Oil City, Pennsylvania. They practiced together until the early 70’s when they retired and spent part of their time in Florida. Henrietta was active in the Tree of Life Synagogue Sisterhood, Oil City, PA, Hadassah, and in the Zonta Club for many years. In 1989, Dr. Harold Schleider died and within a couple of years, Henrietta moved to Columbia, S.C. to be close to family. There she met Dr. Emmanuel Farber and they were married in May of 2000. They shared wonderful years together traveling to California, England, and France to visit family and to Florida to spend the winters. They enjoyed concerts and were always seen together. When Henrietta became ill, she entered the skilled nursing wing of Wildwood Downs. Dr. Emmanuel Farber was consistently a devoted husband assuring that she was always well cared for. Henrietta is survived by her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Farber; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Albert and Barbara Schleider of Akron, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Rabbi Sanford Marcus of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Natalie Damschroder of Columbus, Ohio, Scott Schleider of Cleveland, Ohio, Marcy Schulman of Hudson, Ohio, Dr. Jonathan Marcus of Toronto, Canada, Janet Marcus of Paris, France, Julia Gomez of Forest Hills, New York, and Samuel Grosby of Columbia; seven great-grandchildren, Josh Fishman, Andrew and Corey Schulman, Emma, Leah, Owen, and Ella Gomez. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Tree of Life Congregation, 6719 N. Trenholm Road, with interment at the Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery. Minyans will be held at 6921 Sandy Shore Road at 6 p.m. February 16th and 17th. After that she will be remembered at the Tree of Life. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tree of Life Congregation, 6719 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.
