Tom went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine (Kitty) Brown and his children; Tom Fairfield Brown, Jr., and his wife, Josephine Brown, Katie Laughridge, Lynn Turbeville, and her husband, Steve Turbeville, and Doug Brown, and his wife, Melissa Brown; seven grandchildren: Beverly Derrah and her husband Bryan Derrah, Chris Laughridge, Dominique Randall and her husband, Rev. Anthony Randall, Nick Brown, Cody Turbeville, Amber Turbeville, and Anna Joy Turbeville; three great grandchildren: Julian and Trent Derrah and Christian Laughridge; and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Clifford Cannon Brown; his brother Mark A. Brown, Sr., and his wife Virginia Brown; his brother Louis N. Brown, Sr. and his surviving wife, Edith Brown. Tom is a graduate of Hillsborough High School and University of Florida Law School. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy. There, he was captain of the varsity swim team, a member of Florida Blue Key, and President of the Letterman's Club. He practiced law for over 50 years. He was President of Hillsborough County Bar Association and Republican State Chairman. He was a member of the Salvation Army Board, life member of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce and actively involved in many community organizations. He was an active member of Idlewild Baptist Church and Seekers Fellowship. Throughout his earthly life he had many accomplishments, but now he is at home with the Lord because of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. "For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the laws demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.] Ephesians 2:8-9 (Amplified Bible) A visitation will be at Blount Curry Funeral Home on Bearss Ave. on Wednesday, October 3, 5-7pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Idlewild Baptist Church at 11am. The family will also receive visitors one hour prior to service.
