King, Townsend Irving "T.I." CHULA VISTA -- Passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 94, on October 18, 2013, of age related causes. He was surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie, the mother of his children; his second wife Julia, his sister Elsie, and a brother, Joe. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on May 18, 1919. T.I. King was a retired Chief Boatswain's Mate after serving 22 years in the Navy. He left active service in 1958, and retired from the Navy in 1967. He was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association. His service to branch 61 Chula Vista includes tours on many Branch committees, as Chaplin, 17 years as editor of the Branch bulletin, 11 years as Secretary-Treasurer, two years as Branch President, and 22 years as a member of the Branch Board of Directors. He served on many Regional Standing Committees and chaired a few. He was elected Regional Vice President 1978-79, subsequently Regional President the following year, National Vice President 1984-85 and served as the Regions leader on the National Board of Directors. He served as National President of the Fleet Reserve Association 1985-86. He had many top recruiter of the year awards. He is survived by his brother Walter King, daughter Jeanie Mackay of Eugene, OR, and a son Townsend Irving Jr. of Ramona, Calif., 6 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great- grandchildren. He was dearly loved by all. Those closest to him loved his dry wit, and keen sensibility. He was well known to be a very generous soul, and always strived to push the importance of a good education. He often gave freely in those areas, to many organizations as well as individuals. He was an avid member of the Officers Club, and kept in close contact with his fellow officers until physical health prevented him. Service will be held at the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 61 Chula Vista, Calif., at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. Remembrances: Jeanie Mackay, 4241 Royal Ave., Eugene, OR 97404.
