Passed away peacefully with family at her side at Vancouver General Hospital on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 following a stroke. Dagmar is survived by her loving husband Joseph; her daughters Andrea (Nickolas) Grabovac and Ingrid (Ryan) Tyler; their children Julia, Emily and Kai Grabovac and Clara, Ian and Aimee Tyler; her mother Jirina Sikora; and brother Igor Mokrys. She was an inspiring researcher in the field of cytogenetics, with over 350 publications to her credit, and became internationally renowned for her discovery of confined placental mosaicism. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at STANLEY PARK PAVILION, 610 Pipeline Road, Vancouver. Modest, strong, devoted to her family and grandchildren, a good hiking friend. I am far away from Vancouver at the moment. It is hard to imagine that Dagmar will not be there when I return.

As a trainee and subsequent colleague and co-author, I am very sad to hear of Dagmar's death. She was cytogenetic leader and UBC had glory days of genetic leadership not only in Canada but internationally. My thoughts go out to the family and wish you a Happy New Year.

Prof Kalousek was already an Eminence when I began to train in paediatric pathology. She came, an invited lecturer, to Women & Infants' Hospital of Rhode Island, where I was doing a fellowship -- and she paid attention to me, she made me feel that she valued me and my possible contributions to her discipline. As she did at every encounter that we had thereafter.

She was good at cherishing. I am sure that she was well cherished in return. That marks a life properly spent.
