Margaret Stoneberg Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and The Province from Jun. 17 to Jun. 18, 2006.
STONEBERG _ Margaret Semple Nee McFarlane January 11, 1911 - May 28, 2006 Born Renfrew, Scotland, deceased at Princeton, B.C. Margaret had been a resident of Princeton since 1959. For many years she worked for the Similkameen Spotlight newspaper and was active in the tourist bureau. Her interest in history and paleontology brought her joy and lasting fame. Her dedication to the museum in Princeton was more often financed by her own time and money. Our thanks to Wesley C. Wehr, of the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, whose work in the Princeton area discovered fossils that now bear her name. The maple leaf and the wild rose are two that brought her a special recognition in many areas. She was, at one time, historian for BC Historical Society, an active member of the Liberal Party, and held most offices in the Eastern Star. A long time member of the Paleontology Society, Archivist Society, Legion, Princeton Writers Group, Business and Professional Women and many other organizations. Predeceased by her sister Moyra Watson, a brother Duncan MacFarlane and husband Lloyd (2005). Survived by her sister Mary Trim and daughters, Elizabeth (Gordon) Iversen, Lenore Stoneberg, Marlene (Tom) Hollway, Janet (Tony) Carrigan with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. We wish to thank the staff at Ridgewood Care Facility for their care and professionalism that allowed both mom and dad to spend the last several years in comfort and care. No service by request. Donations to Ridgewood Lodge, Box 610, Princeton, B.C. V0X 1W0 would be appreciated.
