MEILEN _ Bill September 16, 1932 - September 4, 2006 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of an extraordinary human being. Survived by his loving wife Patricia, two daughters Lisa and Myfanwy (mother Rhuanedd), and five grandchildren Dean, Jamie, Sophia, Max and Severin. Also survived by brother John Mudd and sister Ann Chown and a large extended family in Wales. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Bill served in the merchant marine, did military service with the British Army in Korea, and worked as a highly successful stage, radio and television actor, radio and television writer and best-selling novelist in Britain before coming to Canada in 1969 as a professor in the Department of Drama at the University of Alberta. He retired professor emeritus in 1998. Throughout his years in Canada he contributed broadly to the stage, radio and television arts as a skilled screenwriter, broadcaster, actor and exceptionally talented dialectician. Heartfelt gratitude to Drs. Surka, Sheehan and Fedorchuk and for the wonderful care Bill received from the homecare nurses at Three Bridges and at the Cancer Agency. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church Cathedral (corner of Georgia and Burrard). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or PAL Vancouver. Messages of condolence may be made at Walkey & Company Funeral Directors 604-738-0006

I had a wonderful youth around Bill. He was always teaching us something ,either to sit up straight or grand lessons of life .On many occasions if caught mumbling he would give us a cork to bite on and a book to read aloud.Whether it be a lesson of life or a fantastic journey Bill was the Captain and we all his mates. My love goes out to all God Bless

Remembering Bill. Words can't begin to explain how amazing you were and and how kind and generous you were to me and everybody. Thank you for sharing your words and time with us while you were here. The Haiku, the Poems, the Novels, the Plays, the Sreenplays and Scripts that seemed to flow from your heart so effortlessly will be with us forever and you will never be forgotten.

Love, George

Wonderful memories of a tremendously gifted, warm and loveable human being. The courage and humour he showed during his illness was truly amazing. The essence of everything that Bill was lives on, and his spirit is now home in the hills of his beloved Wales, in whose cause he gave so much. Remembered always by his friends Tina and Paul.
