MENCE OAM, Ian R B
… a stone, a leaf, an unfound door.
Ian Mence OAM (1937) of Brighton, Victoria, passed away peacefully on 26 July 2025
shortly after his eighty-eighth birthday.
Son to Dudley and Phyliss; brother to June; husband to Leeron and Suzie;
father to Cameron and David; uncle to Andrew, Fiona, Alistair and Jennifer;
grandfather to Clara, Clementine, Leonard and Cecilia.
Ian contained multitudes. He was intelligent, wise, gregarious and very funny.
He made huge contributions to business
(Mence Timber, Forestry Council), politics (Liberal Party, the IPA), community service (Brighton Rotary, Brighton Grammar School, Mayflower, OzChild), the church (St Leonard's, St Andrew's), sport (Brighton Baths, Kooyong Tennis Club, Lorne Surf Club) and higher education (Melbourne Uni, MAP) here in Victoria.
Church St will never be the same without bumping into Ian!
