Marjorie ) Obituary
GILBY (James)
Marjorie Alison
11/08/1930 - 15/08/2025
For 72 years, wife of Alestion Ross Gilby 18/10/1926 - 13/7/2023.
Mother of Anne, Barbara, Martin and Janet.
Mother-in-law, grandmother and great grand mother.
Marjorie was born in White Hills, Bendigo, educated at MLC Melbourne and
was a resident of Canberra for over 65 years. Among the many roles she
undertook in life she was a school librarian, violinist and singer, multiple times
Australian and Asia-Pacific orienteering champion, member of the ACT
Genealogical Society, member and past-president of the ACT Embroiderers'
Guild and a staunch supporter of classical music through her work with the
Canberra Youth Orchestra, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, National Music
Camp (AYO) and Musica Viva.
Her home welcomed friends and family for wonderful meals, and accommodation if needed.
She was known for her generosity of spirit and love of life. Truly a life well lived.
We shall miss her.
Marjorie passed away peacefully at Canberra Hospital. Thanks to hospital staff
and palliative care for their guardianship in her last days.
Marjorie will be interred, together with her much loved husband Ross and her
great, great grandfather Peter McLaren in St John's churchyard, Canberra, after
a private cremation.
