Dennis Longpre Dennis George Longpre passed away peacefully on August 18, 2021, at the age of 83 years, with his loving family by his side, at the Assiniboia Union Hospital. Dennis was born on August 14, 1938 at Kincaid, Saskatchewan, to Albert and Isabella (Smith) Longpre. He was the younger of two children. Dennis grew up on a ranch south of Mankota and attended several country schools with his mother being his teacher. On December 9, 1961 Dennis married Maggie Deringer and together raised their four children Roger, Donna, Ken, and Greg. Dennis was an accomplished carpenter who took particular pride in his work. He worked for Inland Construction in Assiniboia, SK from 1965 to 1970 and was one of the carpenters to help build the Assiniboia Union Hospital, which was coincidently where he passed away. Dennis, with his family, moved back to Mankota, where he began doing carpentry work on his own. He had his hands in many buildings constructed or renovated around the Mankota district and surrounding communities. He was well known for his expert work. After almost succumbing to cancer in 2005, Dennis semi-retired but continued to do what he loved best, by using his carpentry skills on smaller wood working projects which he proudly gave to his family as gifts and made for anyone who was interested. Dennis and his wife, Maggie, have a seasonal site at Thomson Lake, SK and this was his happy place. He spent many hours in his boat fishing and enjoying the solitude the lake had to offer. Dennis loved the times when family and friends would gather to sing and dance. Dennis also enjoyed hunting throughout his life and in later years would accompany his sons on their hunting expeditions. Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maggie, four children Roger (Gina) Deringer of Assiniboia, Donna Frampton (friend Darwin Dueck) of Swift Current, Ken (Helen) Longpre of Martensville, Greg Longpre of Mankota, his sister Yvonne (Paul) Larson of Pincher Creek, AB, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On September 4, 2021 at 11:00 am a graveside service was held at the Mankota Cemetery, just east of Mankota, followed by lunch at the Mankota Hall. Everyone was welcome to attend. Donations in Dennis's memory can be made to the Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Longpre family may be shared at
