Ruth Hutchinson

Ruth Hutchinson Ruth Hutchinson, of Assiniboia, SK, passed away July 23, 2018 at age 95. Ruth was born on a farm south of Mazenod, daughter of William Dennis & Marguerite Townsend. She had two sisters and two brothers. Ruth attended Ford School, completed high school in Assiniboia staying at the Girl's Residence; then attended the Moose Jaw Normal School for teaching education. She taught at Dunning and Lake of the Rivers schools which were both one-room school houses. Ruth married Gerald Hutchinson in 1946 and they made their home on the farm west of Congress, then moved to the Hutchinson homestead in 1949 when his parents retired to the town of Assiniboia. Gerald and Ruth resided on the farm until moving to Assiniboia in 1988. Ruth was active in the United Church in Vantage, then Assiniboia. She was a life member of the U.C.W. Ruth helped the U.C.W. with making quilts and was involved with the tea & bake sale activities at the church. Ruth was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family & friends with family gatherings and had friends in for afternoon tea. For many years, Ruth played bridge at the 55 club. She also enjoyed playing scrabble. Funeral Service for Ruth was held Saturday, July 28, 2018 at St. Paul's United Church, Assiniboia, SK with Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiating. Memories were shared by nieces Pat Thomson-Turner, Valerie Townsend-Fraser, Dianne Acaster and Lorraine Raiwet. An Honour Guard was formed by members of The Order of the Eastern Star -- Assiniboia Chapter #8. Pallbearers were Garth Coghill, Alfred Eason, Ryan Jansen, Brad Peter, Trevor Thompson and Lyle Wilson. Interment took place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Pre-deceased by her husband Gerald and daughter-in-law Lynn, Ruth is survived by son Walter who lives on the home farm, son Bob (Emogene) from Missouri and daughter Marian from Regina; two grand-daughters -- Cathy (Will) and Holly (Brian); and several nieces and nephews.
