Helen Wright Obituary
Helen Marjorie Wright of Paxson, Alberta passed away at the age of 100 on September 19, 2017 at the Athabasca Extendicare.
Helen was born in Entwistle, Alberta to Peter and Ethel Parsons. She worked for the Edmonton School District and then the YMCA until moving from the city in 1946 to Paxson to be a pioneer woman. She also managed the rural post office and only phone in the area for many years.
She raised her two daughters on her own after the untimely death of her husband Earl in 1958 and remained on the farm until she was 98 years old.
Helen was an avid gardener, carpenter, seamstress, skater/skier, bread baker and reader. She had a great love of music and enjoyed dancing even up into her late nineties. A major passion was taking care of all animals. Helen's home was a refuge for many stray cats and dogs over the years and several bird and squirrel feeders were kept filled year round. She would save scraps for the coyotes and was not afraid of bears that frequented her yard.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Ethel Parsons, husband Earl and sisters Opal Otto and Virginia Hume. She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Nemeth (Art Burch), Janeen (Don) Szigety; grandchildren Daniel (Kristi) Nemeth, Therese Gossett, Christa (Kash) Stilz, Traci (Dave) Mcleod, Jeffery Bull (Jennifer Isaac) and Jeremy Bull and great-grandchildren Madeline, Charlie, Elyse, Emmy, Maia, Amelie and Lucia. Helen is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and loyal friends.
The family is grateful for the staff at Wildrose Villa in Boyle, Dr. Smith and staff at Extendicare and the many relatives and neighbors for their dedicated care and friendship.
By request there will be no service. If you wish to send a memorial, it may be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue, Athabasca, Alberta or animal rescue of choice.
