Alan Armstrong Obituary

Dr. Alan Hamilton Armstrong passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022 at the age of 90.
Alan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Dr. Edward Armstrong and Dr. Olive Armstrong. He arrived in Canada in 1959 after receiving his medical degree from Queen's University in Belfast. He worked at Hamilton General Hospital for a year followed by another year at Peel Memorial Hospital in Brampton. In 1961, he set up his own practice in Bramalea, ON where he remained until retirement in 2000.An enthusiastic traveller, Alan would often reminisce about the dozens of countries he visited with his cherished wife of 42 years, Ruth.
He had many fond memories of his friends at Probus, the bridge club, and of his hiking, squash and golf buddies. Alan enjoyed family dinners spent with his late sister Dr. Mary Hall of Brampton and his cousin Dr. Michael Johnston and his wife Liz of Dundas, as well as many visits with his elder brother John, who resides in Belfast.
Alan was respected and deeply loved by his children Jennifer (Dave), Denise, Neil (Kathy), Paul (Rachel), Melanie (Andrew), Gwen (Dennis), and Wanda (Kent). He was fiercely proud of his nine grandchildren, Miranda and Malcolm, Jackson, Owen, Mae and Kendra, Jamieson, Eve and Julia, who loved to hear stories about the "olden days" when he was little and the war was on.
There will be no service, however if you wish to share your memories or condolences, please do so at glenoaks.ca. If desired, please send memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association at lung.ca in memory of Alan Armstrong.

Such an end of an era, the passing of your father and ours. Sadly, I was trying to find contact information for your dad, when our dad passed, to let him know. I remember your dad having such a kind and gentle disposition. Please accept our heartfelt condolences, from Stephen, Allison, Keith and Brian.

So sorry for your loss Denise, Jennifer, Neil and Paul. Your dad helped us out of a few scrapes when my brothers were young. This feels like the end of an era. Back in the 60s and 70s, Bramalea Woods was a real community where parents got together for endless wine & cheese, bridge or fund raising parties and children had free reign to play outside all day and were always welcome in their neighbor's homes.
