Glenda passed away comfortably on May 18 2023, at the age of 83 at the Brampton Civic Hospital surrounded by her family, after living at the Woodhall nursing home since 2019. Last surviving child of Rita (Donnelly) and Stephen Gallagher, sister to Jim (Pat), Des (Bev) and Anne (Tony) Yantha. Wife of 54 years to Mike, mother to Tanya (Mike) Hewitt and Brendan, and grandmother to Ashley and Lauren Hewitt.
She was born on Sept 3 1939 in Chalk River, graduated high school in Deep River, attended teachers' college in North Bay, and attended Concordia and York universities. She touched many lives as a teacher in Kitchener, Ottawa and Brampton, the latter for many years at St Francis Xavier elementary school.
She and Anne traveled widely for many summers. Glenda was also an avid Blue Jays fan and euchre player.
A memorial celebration will be held at Ward's Funeral home, 52 Main St. South, Brampton, Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11AM. Her ashes will be buried beside her sister's in the Mackey cemetery at a future date.
As an expression of sympathy donations made to MADD, the Canadian Red Cross or Covenant House would be appreciated by the family.
