Barrie Geosits Obituary

We are saddened to share that Barrie passed away on November 9, 2024 surrounded by loved ones, four months shy of her 90th birthday. Barrie was born at the Red Cross outpost hospital in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan on the traditional territories of the Cree First Nations Flying Dust Reserve. She was the second daughter of Edward and Edith Fountain.
Barrie spent the first few years of her life in Saskatchewan before her family relocated to Murrayville, BC. She enjoyed fond memories of her childhood years in Langley including riding her bike, playing in Williams Park (a property her father co-owned), buying treats at Porters General Store and performing in the Hall. In 1951, at the age of sixteen her family moved to South Burnaby where she graduated with a senior matric certificate at Burnaby South Secondary. After completing Normal School she became a Grade One teacher at Canyon Heights Elementary in North Vancouver.
She married the love of her life, Herbert Geosits, from Bruck an der Mur, Austria on June 30, 1959. They had four daughters, Lisa, Lori, Lynn and Leah. Barrie left her job as a teacher and devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren and being the best she could be from cooking and baking to sewing or planning. She took great pride in her family. After the passing of her husband in 2003, she moved back to Langley (2008) to enjoy her twilight years and made many new friends.
Barrie touched the lives of everyone she met with her kind heart, keen sense of humor and generosity. She was happiest spending time with those she held dear. She enjoyed genealogy, history, Facebook, hosting gatherings, watching sports, thrifting, music and spending time at her second home in Blind Bay. She was also particularly proud of her Scottish heritage. She loved watching her nephew Peter Coulson and his daughters performing in their pipe and drum bands in their traditional tartan, and she made Robbie Burns Day a special occasion for her family where she would serve traditional haggis dishes and was known to enjoy a dram or two of single malt!
Predeceased by her daughter Leah and sister Sylvia Smigielski (2002) and her husband Herbie (2003). She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Lisa, Lori, Lynn (Mike) and grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike) Van't Hullenaar, Nicholas Nicholson, Alexandra (Kurt) Carlson, Travis (Jessica) Pynn, Grand-dog Jasmine, Great-grandchildren Eryn and Dylan V., Kasey C., her sister Janet Johnson, Friends Steve Smedegaard, Akila Jogardaarachchi, her Chartwell family and many, many more extended family and friends.
