George Robert Humphrey
August 4, 1944 – April 12, 2025
George Robert Humphrey passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 80 years young.
George was a devoted husband, father, and "silly Grandpa," known for his curiosity, humour, and ability to connect with everyone. A lifelong learner and builder, George never stopped moving—always working on a project, exploring somewhere new, or trying out a new sport or hobby.
Born in Vancouver, George graduated from BCIT in Building Technology, the Canadian Institute in Management & Administration, and later earned a degree in Architecture from UBC. His career in the public sector included serving as the Chief Building Official for the City of Burnaby. He also held leadership positions with the Building Officials Association of BC, chaired the Provincial Building Code Appeal Board, and was a national voice in shaping Canada's building codes. He was honoured with life memberships and awards from several provincial and national organizations for his contributions.
He is survived by his beloved wife Dayle, his children Eran and Jarett, their partners Dave and Ethan, and his adored grandchildren Miya, Brook, and Rem. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters Bernice and Marilyn, and many extended family members and friends.
George found joy in the everyday—golfing, playing hockey and baseball, curling, painting, dancing, beachcombing in Maui, and travelling with loved ones. He lived fully, laughed often, and loved deeply.
A celebration of George's life will be held at the Seymour Golf and Country Club on Sunday May 25th from 1:00 - 4:00pm. Friends and Family are welcome.
