Ms. B was my grade 4 teacher. She was a passionate and excellent educator. I will never forget her love, knowledge and appreciation of music. Her mini-Olympics was unforgettable and incredibly novel and fun for her students.

I was a student of hers at miller park and I always remember when she would get mad
She would squint her right eye and snap her pencil in half with one hand lol!

Miss Beauchamp was my 5th grade teacher, and it was in her class I first realized the love I had for math and music! To this day, I feel an intense emotional connection to opera. I have thought of her often over the years, and am saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences to her family and friends.

We were friends in the 70s and I have good memories of Joan. she was witty, well read and had a passion for opera. I remember she and another opera lover swooning on hearing Nissan Dorma. I also remember that she was very close to one of her brothers and his wife. My condolences to them.

Joan Beauchamp was a feminist who introduced me to feminist activism in Miller Park Elementary in 1968. She convinced a number of our colleagues to submit a brief to the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada. We wrote and submitted a brief regarding the sexist standardized textbooks we were forced to use in our classrooms. These texts depicted girls and boys in traditional gender roles that limited the behaviour and choices for them. Joan initiated a feminist teacher group, Women In Teaching, that became a powerful lobbying group that convinced the British Columbia Teacher's Federation to strike a task force on The Status of Women In Education. This was the beginning of major changes in education from the Government down to the classroom that addressed the sex discrimination experienced by female teachers and girls in the education system. Joan was the instigator of all positive change that followed.
