Gordon Pope Obituary

Dr. Gordon Bruce Pope, age 68, passed away in the early morning of April 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Gordon was born in Toronto, Ontario to Edward "Ted" and Catherine (Hunter) Pope. He was the second of four sons and will be deeply missed by his brothers; Edward "Teddy" (Elizabeth), Larry (Debbi), and Kevin (Lisa). Gordon and his family moved to Caledon for his formative years. Gordon quickly grew to love Caledon and when he started his own family, he moved back to Caledon to raise his daughters with his wife Carol.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (West), daughters, Sandra (Ryan) and Erin (Otsí:io), and baby grandson, Benjamin.

Gordon was affectionately called Gord or Gordie by those who knew him - and he knew and touched many people's hearts. He loved to make people laugh and, as he called it, "get a rise out of people", whether they were expecting it or not (which sometimes got him into hot water!). This afforded him and his family many spontaneous connections and adventures because he could light up any space.

Gord was very passionate in everything he did, whether it was helping his daughters with a school project, teaching his daughters to dance to the Beatles, or completely immersing himself in a new place while on one of the faraway adventures with Carol, Gord showed up intently and completely. Because Gord did not believe in in-betweens and lived his life 100% as himself.

This was one of the many great lessons he taught his children; to follow their hearts. For a feisty man, with many of "his own opinions", he always made room for his family to show up as the most authentic version of themselves. This leads to his most important teaching: the definition of love, which he fiercely and unconditionally held for all of his family.

Here is where he would make a joke about unconditionally loving the Toronto Maple Leafs, for whom his loyalty never wavered! Gord was both down to earth and very passionate about his family and his life's work of helping people, which he chose to do as a Chiropractor. After retirement he continued to give to charities he held in the highest regard: Bethel Hospice in Inglewood; Orangeville Headwaters Hospital and the Salvation Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gord's honour to the above charities would be appreciated.

Gord's sense of adventure, wit, laughter and kindness will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Most of all, the love he gave to others will be longingly remembered and cherished.

Cremation will be taking place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
