When I started as a volunteer at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in March of 2015, I was incredibly fortunate to be trained by Grant. I still remember Jamie, the volunteer coordinator, telling me that Grant was the best when it came to training new hospital ambassadors and she was absolutely right! Not only was the teaching solid, but Grant remained a "go-to" source for help and information when it came dealing with patients, visitors, staff and other volunteers. And I was more than happy to be of even a little help in his continuing and relentless wheelchair campaign. I like to think I became a strong ambassador trainer myself thanks to the grounding I got from Grant. If CMH ever created a Volunteer Hall of Fame, I'd make Grant Robertson the first inductee.

Grant was a wonderful person, cousin and friend. I feel fortunate we were in each other's lives and Grant will be very much missed by me and so many people. I loved seeing him perform in the Preston Scout Band as a senior. Our dinners out and his harem as he referred to the table of women that often accompanied him are memories that will live on. Cheers my friend.

Grant and I worked many hours together when I was a clerk in MDC. He always popped his head in to say hello with a big smile. My deepest condolences to the family. He touched many lives. May he RIP now.

We are all so sorry to hear of Grant's passing....Please allow us to share a little bit of what we knew about Grant...Grant volunteered over 5,000 hours at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as an Ambassador Convenor, in our Medical Day Care unit, and as a CMHVA Vice President. Grant was best known to us as "Captain Wheelchair", championing the patient experience and ensuring there were always wheelchairs available to assist those who were in need of one. Grant would track their usage and maintenance, and his happiest day at CMH was when he was able to log and put into circulation over 30 new wheelchairs. Throughout Grant's 16 years of volunteering with CMH he received his 15 year CMHVA Service Award pin, two Ontario Service Awards, countless Certificates of Appreciation, and was a recipient of a CMH ICCAIR Award. Grant´s presence and unique humour will be deeply missed by his fellow volunteers and all the staff at CMH. In acknowledgement of Grant´s long service to the patients, volunteers, staff and physicians of CMH, the flag will be at half-mast at the time of his celebration-of-life.
Please let us know when the celebration will occur as we would like to honour Grant in this way. Thank you, and take care.
