Werner frequently expresses his gratitude to his wife, Diane; his sons, Mike and Steven; and his PSW caregiver, whom he refers to as his "angels." There were many of his "angels" who were good to him, and they definitely brightened his days with their visits and care.
Werner frequently acknowledges the blessing of his bright living space and is grateful for his sons' presence and the care he received from his caregivers and friends who connect with him. His cheerful phone greeting was something Elsie Kuepfer frequently highlighted. He always responds with a positive spirit and the assurance that everything is fine. He is so appreciative that you can see and hear his happy smile over the phone.
He had said he miss Tim Horton's weekly men's breakfast. He may not speak much, but he likes to listen in on the talks, especially those of Bruce Witmer's. He also acknowledges Martin Laverne's quiet spirit and enjoys being in his company while they are at Tim Horton´s. I am reminded again of Werner´s knowing smile when he raises his head and says people believe he is sleeping but he hears everything that is said!
Knowing Werner likes his time with Pastor Kyong Jung Kim´s visit makes me happy. He will have someone to discuss his religious beliefs and insights into the Bible.
A few days ago I noticed Werner's kind and appreciative spirit reflected in his countenance, he appeared restful and fresh. His sons´ presence was a loving gift for him. They remained steadfast in their commitment to Werner, their father.
I am so glad that Werner Winkler remains my friend, and I will miss his presence.
