Aarno Kaari Obituary

Aarno Kalevi Kaari, age 84 years passed away peacefully Saturday, May 7th, 2016 at St. Joseph's Care Group in Thunder Bay after a yearlong battle with cancer. Aarno was born in Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1955 to work as a welder in the shipyards of Port Arthur. Soon after, he moved to Terrace Bay with his wife Elvi and two sons Henry and Harry and spent several years working in the bush camps. He then went on to work at Kimberly Clarke, again as a welder, where he remained throughout his career. Aaron, or Aarni, as many of his friends called him, had several hobbies such as carpentry, wine-making, cross-country skiing and especially fishing. Following his retirement he eventually made his way back to Thunder Bay where he and his wife could be closer to family. He will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly 50 years Elvi, sons Henry and Harry, brother Kauko and numerous relatives and friends throughout Finland, Thunder Bay and Terrace Bay. A celebration of life will be held at Hilldale Lutheran Church at 321 Hilldale Road on Monday June 13th at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made to the Hilldale Lutheran Church.
