AARO HALONEN
It is with great sadness that the family of Aaro Halonen announces his passing on Dec. 2, 2023 at age 84, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hospice Unit. Aaro was born in Leppavirta, Finland and immigrated to Canada as a young man. He was employed at Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Terrace Bay for over 30 years, until his retirement. Aaro's passion throughout his life was fishing. Many friendships were developed through this shared pastime. When failing health restricted active participation in fishing Aaro took pleasure in watching other fishermen head out to his favorite fishing spots on the big lake. Aaro is survived by his wife of 58 years Lea, son Jari (Christie), grandsons Greg (Kyra) and Steven, sisters Annikki Itkonen (Taisto), Airi Mastomaki (Erkki) and Anja Thitz (Finland), brother Ilmari (Toini), sister-in-law Karen Halonen, brother-in-law Osmo Kankkunen, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Risto and Heimo, nephews Eric, John and Allan, in-laws Ville and Hilja Kankkunen and sister-in-law Ritva Kankkunen. Cremation has taken place. Aaro will be remembered next summer, 2024 at the family camp at Selim.
Aaro will truly be missed.
