It is with broken hearts that the family of Ada Futia announces her peaceful passing on December 8, 2025, at the age of 95, just two weeks short of her 96th Birthday.
Ada was born on December 21, 1929, in Siderno Marina (R.C.), Italy. She was the third child of Salvatore and Maria Piccolo. She endured a challenging childhood during the war, facing many hardships, but the family's deep faith and love for one another carried them through the most difficult times.
On April 9, 1961, Ada married the love of her life, Domenico, at St. Francesco Basilica in Paola, Italy. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Angela, they decided to immigrate to Canada to join her family who had arrived a few years earlier. Soon after settling in their new country, their second child, Fortunato, was born.
Ada's life revolved around her family. She loved cooking and baking for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To this day, many say her savoiardi were unmatched. She made every holiday special. Mom was a kind and generous woman who welcomed everyone with warmth, making sure no one left without a full stomach and a container of homemade food to take home. She also loved gardening. Her tomatoes were the best and she proudly started her seedlings each February to ensure they were ready for planting by June. She canned her own tomato sauce to enjoy throughout the winter. Her love of flowers was evident in her vibrant garden, always bursting with colour.
After Dad retired, they enjoyed travelling to Mexico with family and friends. She dearly cherished daily coffee visits with her sisters and the occasional trip to Grand Portage Casino.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughter, Angela (Tony) Racco; her son, Fortunato; her grandchildren, Marlena (Kevin) Pruys, Christopher Racco, Darren Futia (Amanda), and Alyssa Futia (Brendan); and her great-grandchildren, Jamie, JoJo, Luka Pruys, and Leo Racco.
Ada is also survived by her siblings: Olga Mancusa, Albina Cesaratto, Cosimo Piccolo, and Leah (Ben) Grassia; and brother-in-law Ugo Grassia. In Italy, she is survived by sister-in-law Rita Ciprioti and brother-in-law Francesco (Rita) Futia. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives in both Canada and Italy also mourn her passing.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Domenico; her grandson, Cosimo Racco; her parents, Salvatore and Maria Piccolo; her brother Rino (Lina) Piccolo; her sister Natalina Grassia; her nephews, Sam and Aldo Piccolo; her parents-in-law, Fortunato and Angela Futia; her brothers-in-law Battista Mancusa, Erminio Cesaratto, Vincenzo Futia, and Guiseppe (Memma) Futia; and her sisters-in-law Rosella Piccolo and Filomena (Leo) Michelizzi and nephew Roberto Michelizzi.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in St. Dominic's R.C. Church, celebrated by Rev. Bonaventure Anaike.
