FERRUCCIO AGOSTINO
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ferruccio Agostino wish to announce his peaceful passing on February 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and in the comfort of his home at the age of 84.
Ferruccio, lovingly known as "Tourista," was born in Gioiosa Ionica, Italy, on April 5, 1941, and raised by proud parents Cosimo and Maria (Minnella) Agostino. Ferruccio carried his homeland and his passion for everything Italian in his heart throughout his life. Ferruccio met his beloved wife, Maria, in Donisi, Italy, and the two were married on February 9, 1964, celebrating an amazing 60 years of marriage in February 2024. In the early 1970's, they bravely immigrated to Fort William with their 3 children, Joseph, Mariella and Cosimo, where their fourth child, Lucia, would be born.
Through determination, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication, he built a beautiful life centered on family, hard work, and tradition. For many years, Ferruccio worked as a truck driver, rising early and working long hours without complaint. He took great pride in providing for his family.
He often spoke of his childhood, where his family owned a fruit and wine shop, a place filled with fresh produce, conversation, and community. Those early experiences shaped his deep appreciation for honest work, good food, and the importance of bringing people together.
Later, inspired by those roots and his passion for his family's heritage, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening a deli, bakery, and Italian specialty store (Agostino's Deli). More than a business, Agostino's became a place of warmth and connection, where his generosity, work ethic, and love for Italian food and community were felt by all who walked through the door. Ferruccio could always be found puttering around the bakery, checking in, lending a hand, or simply being present.
Despite a brief illness, Ferruccio continued to live his life fully and on his own terms. He cherished time spent with family and friends, enjoying their company and the simple routines that brought him joy. His favourite daily rituals included going on walks and stopping for his coffee at Tim Hortons, a small pleasure that reflected his appreciation for life's simple moments.
Above all, Ferruccio was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather. His kindness was effortless and sincere, his presence steady and comforting. Ferruccio found great happiness in being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, sharing meals, laughter, and the traditions he worked so hard to preserve. One of his greatest joys was travelling back to Italy in the summers with his wife. Returning to his hometown, walking familiar streets, visiting relatives and old friends, and reconnecting with his roots brought him immense peace and happiness. Italy was never just a place to him; it was a part of who he was, and those trips filled his heart.
Ferruccio will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Joe (Sandra) Agostino, Mariella (Jeff) Ricciardi, Cosimo (Laura) Agostino and Lucia Agostino; grandchildren Jordan, Joshua, Alessia, Luca, Siena, Emily, Olivia and Fiona, as well as great-grandson Anthony, brothers-in-law Antonio (Frances) Minnella and Michele (Antonella) Minnella, sister-in-law Bruna Minnella along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family in Italy, and the many friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria, his parents, Cosimo and Maria, his mother-in-law, Immacolata Crupi, his fathers-in-law, Giuseppe De Leo and Vincenzo Minnella, and his brother-in-law, Domenic Minnella.
His legacy of love, resilience, generosity, and devotion to family will live on in every shared story, every meal prepared with care, and every gathering around the table.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to their neighbour, Erinn Macgowan, for her quick and selfless actions. They are also deeply grateful to the first responders for their prompt care, and to Dr. Marlena Tassone, Dr. Masoud Sadreddini, Dr. Sonja Lubbers, and Dr. Elrasheed Osman for their dedicated care and compassion.
Visitation will take place at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:30 a.m. celebrated by Msgr. P.M. Stilla. The entombment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception and time of fellowship at the DaVinci following the interment.
