Alan Schaefer Obituary

Mr. Alan John Schaefer age 69 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Al was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. He came to Port Arthur as a young man with Wardrop Engineering to work at Provincial Papers. He joined Cook Engineering (now Genivar) in 1970 where he finished his career 42 years later. He married Liz Strawson on August 17, 1968. They just celebrated 45 wonderful years together. Al loved his home and family and enjoyed spending time with them at the family camp at Max Lake. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7332 Father Baxter Assembly. Al was also a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. Al is survived by his wife Liz, sons, Murray (Lori) their daughters Selena and Hanna, North Bay, Mike (Jen) their son Aden, Toronto, Mark (Robin) their son Reese, Calgary, sister Elaine (Harvey) Pronyk, brothers Bruce (Eleanor) Topham, Allan (Val) Topham, sisters-in-law Barb (Gary) Tripp, Shirley Friesen, brother-in-law Ray (Ev) Strawson, sisters-in-law Helen Strawson, and Doris Campbell. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, parents in law, brother Les, brothers-in-law Bob and Fred Strawson and Duke Friesen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 12:10pm in Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. If friends desire, memorials to St. Joseph's Foundation would be appreciated. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same." A tree will be planted in memory of Alan Schaefer in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
