I only learned of Bert's passing yesterday (Feb. 3). As a Scout leader, Bert had a big influence on me as a teen. He brought a vigorous program to our Troop back in the sixties, and the leadership lessons I learned stayed with me and helped me form a successful career. I am saddened to hear that we have lost him, and I hope there is some comfort in knowing that he lived his life well and had a very positive impact on those he encountered along the way.

I enjoyed meeting with Bert in his years at LU through the Herbarium and also as a fellow birder with Thunder Bay Field Naturalists Club. He was a strong supporter of the Naturalists and always interested in Nature and conservation efforts. He was a nice person. I have sent a donation to Thunder Cape Bird Observatory in his memory as he enjoyed the birds.
