Alexander Koval Obituary

Alexander passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Hogarth Riverview Manor with family at his side and the love of more family surrounding him.

Alex was born in Savant Lake, Ontario on July 14, 1927. He was the second of five children born to Rose and Konrad Koval. A life was built in Savant Lake and later Pickle Lake with his parents and siblings, including much love, laughter and hard work.

It was in Pickle Lake that he met, fell in love and married Anne MacKenzie, his loving wife and partner in life. Together they had 4 children and made their life choices around them. These choices sometimes meant sacrifices for them, but as divided time between Pickle Lake (work) and Thunder Bay (family) made for challenges it also made for a great appreciation for time together. During those times, distance was never a barrier to love but a bridge to building treasured memories. As the years passed, children grew, grandchildren were born, there was more time with his wife and the creation of more memories.

Alex was a man with a kind heart, a gentle soul and joyous spirit. He was guided by love and compassion, not only for his family but all that entered his life, both people and animals of all kind. He wore his heart on his sleeve and felt deeply. He remembered people for their kindness and always in a positive light, seeing the best in us all. The later years robbed him of his memories, but never his kind and gentle nature.

Alex is remembered by his children Bill (Sandy), John (Eileen), Judi (Bruce) and Laurie; his grandchildren Shasta Koval (Jacob), Kegan Koval, Tirrell Koval, Jason Charban (Ashley) and Tyler Koval (Heather); great grandchildren: Kylee, Jacob, Alina, Daniel, Calen, Molly, Bentley, and Lincoln. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Bunny Commisso and Caroline Jefferies, as well as many other family members.

Alex will be reunited now with those who have gone before him, including his wife, Anne; grandson, Trevor; parents, Konrad and Rose Koval; brothers, Bill and Donny Koval; as well as other friends & family alike.

A celebration of Alex's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday December 19, 2016 in the Tiberio Room, Airlane Hotel and Conference Centre. Arrangements are in care of the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore St at James.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Care Group – The Manor House would be gratefully appreciated.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Alex. I have known the Koval family all my life. My father Nick McGee worked for Koval Bros. as a mechanic for many years.

I remember Alex taking me when I was about seven or eight into the bush on a tractor in Pickle Lake to get wood. Great memories.

He will never be forgotten.

I am so very sorry to learn of Uncle Alex's passing. He was such a sweet guy who had a special place in my heart.

It is impossible to for me to think of the past without both Uncle Alex and Auntie Anne not being part of it. There are so many wonderful memories that are filled with a lot of love and laughter. I am sure that all 4 of our parents are together now and imagine them at some kitchen table having a few little "bumps" and hilarious conversations.

Uncle Alex loved all and was so very proud of each of you. I know that you all will miss him very much.

Love and Hugs
