Alexander Ryan Obituary

With heavy hearts the family of Mr. Alexander Lawrence Ryan age 70 years, a resident of Arrow Lake, announce his passing at his home with his family by his side on Monday, February 6, 2012. Born in Westmeath in the Ottawa valley, Alex spent many years in the Manitouwadge area working in the logging industry. It was there that he met and married Shirley McAfee, the love of his life. Then with his wife Shirley and daughter Becky, they moved to beautiful Arrow Lake where they operated Ryan's Arrow Lake Lodge for the past 22 years. During that time Alex made many friends. He was a kind and gentle man who was highly respected and much loved. Alex had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed his many fishing and hunting excursions with family and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Allan Ryan, Paul Ryan, and Louis Ryan (Pauline), sister Betty Cosgrove and parents Frank and Kathleen Ryan. Alex is survived by his soul mate and best friend Shirley and daughter Becky (his little girlie). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. Services will be complete in the church. Visitation for friends and family will take place on Friday February 10, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Alexander Ryan in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
