Mr. Allan Wilho Fiskar, age 85 years, resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on December 16th, 2013. He was born on April 4, 1928, in Port Arthur, Ontario. As a young boy, Al was raised in Kaministiquia and then attended Selkirk High School when his family moved to Fort William. He was employed as a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Al had a passion for the outdoors and had a great respect for nature. He enjoyed many fishing, hunting and berry picking adventures with his family and friends. He took great pleasure in his Finnish heritage with a fondness for pannukakku, herring, smoked fish and treats from Current River Bakery. Al owned and operated Kab River Service since 1972 and always had a story to share and a readiness to lend a helping hand. His friends and customers will remember him for his warm hospitality, kindness, generousity and quick wit. Al also had a keen interest in curling and was a member of the Fort William Curling Club. He and many special friends including, Morris Stoyka, Stan Poole, Fred Coulson, Oscar Mattas and Diane Bucan, Don and Brenda Herniek, Alf Childs III, and Carrie Childs, cherished their time-honoured tradition of raising a glass of good cheer at the Morning Class at the annual Brier. Al is survived by his daughter Sandra Pilla of Trenton, son Allan Jr. and daughter Susan, both of Thunder Bay, two grandsons, Jamie Pilla and Jeffrey (Anick) Pilla, three beautiful great-grandchildren Tristan, Amy and Max, sister Vi MacKenzie and numerous nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his wife Marion, parents Emil and Mary Fiskar, sisters Valma Mazurski and Elsie Johnson. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will follow. A Celebration of Al's life will occur at a later date with an announcement to be published. Should friends so desire, donations can be made to one of Al's favourite charities: The Linda Buchan Centre, Thunder Bay and District Humane Society, Salvation Army, Canadian Wildlife Federation or Covenant House.
