ALLAN HAUTA Obituary

ALLAN HAUTA
Allan Henry Hauta, aged 97 years, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital on December 9, 2025. Dad was born on April 7, 1928 in Dinorwic Ontario to parents Olga and Henry. He was the youngest of five children, brothers Wakko, Waino and Toivo and sister Saimi. The family moved to Fort William in the 1930's where dad attended Fort William Collegiate High School and after graduation spent the next several years travelling to and from Queen's University in Toronto where he attained his Teaching Degree. He started teaching in 1949 before retiring in 1983. His time spent teaching Industrial Arts at Kingsway Park School were very enjoyable years for dad as he made many lasting friendships with both his students and fellow teachers. He would continue his teaching career as principal at Crawford, Hyde Park and Queen Elizabeth schools. Dad met the love of his life, Gladys Miller during confirmation classes at St. Luke's Anglican Church. They married on February 2,1950 and celebrated 75 years of marriage this past February. In their younger years, mom and dad travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States and enjoyed trips to France, Mexico and Hawaii along with seventeen cruises to various ports of call. These trips and adventures were often shared with sister Val and husband Ron Stark and lifelong friends Mary and Chic Chehowy. Summers were often spent at the Stark's family camp in Ignace. How mom and dad, Val and Ron managed to put up with rain, a leaky roof, 5 kids, Barry, Lynn, Bill, Tracy and Danny is a miracle in itself. Thank the Lord for rum and coke! Dad is survived by wife Gladys, children Lynn (Duncan) and Barry (Annette), grandsons Kyle (Brittany), Eric (Jen) and great-grandsons Odin and Leo. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers and sister. As per dad's wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Thunder Bay would be appreciated. Thank you to the hospital staff at 2c as they cared for dad. Thank you as well to Dr. Heather McLean as she has cared for both mom and dad for many, many years and also to Brian and Mary Marrion, our close, lifelong, family friends. A special thank you as well to both Zdenka Fabiano and Jason Karimi for their care and support.

I never met the man, however my father, Roy Willianen, mentioned Mr. Hauta on several occasions with nothing but respect. That alone says what a wonderful human being he was. Condolences to his family.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Hauta as my "shop" teacher at Kingsway junior high. I have thought of him often and the life lessons that accompanied the more technical content of his classes. A fine man indeed. My sincere condolences to his family.

He was an incredible man and a gifted teacher. Many of the projects that he taught us to build are still in use in our home. `Mr Hauta ` ensured that we did things the right way!

I will never forget Al's humor. He had a way of deflating testy situations with his quick and always appropriately funny comments. it truly was a pleasure to work along side Al as a fellow principal. Sincere condolences to his family, may he rest in peace. Douglas Gould.

I enjoyed having Mr. Hauta as my principal and .5 Grade 6 teacher at Hyde Park and many conversations out in the community in the years that followed. He was a great man. Condolences to the family.

Great work on the obituary, Barry. Rum and coke did indeed figure into the summers at Ignace!
Uncle Allan made a difference in so many lives and that is his legacy. He certainly figured largely in mine.
Rest in peace, Uncle Allan. You've earned it
