Andreas Comminos Obituary

Andreas Comminos, age 94, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, June 29, 2012 with family by his side.Andreas was born on October 5, 1917 in Kominianika, Kythera, Greece. He married to Pagona "Nitsa" in 1952 and they were happily married for 59 years. Andreas served in the Greek navy in World War II. Andrew worked at CP Rail until his retirement in 1982.Andreas enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed weekend outings with his four sons. A favourite past time of his, was tending to his garden and sharing his harvest with friends and neighbours. Andreas was a dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Thunder Bay and served his parish well. He led the Greek Community as President for many terms. Andreas is survived by his loving wife, Pagona , children Ken, Bill (Tarja), Peter, George (Arlette) and grandchildren Jenny, Katina and Andrew. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Greece, Australia, United States and Canada also survive.Andreas is predeceased by his parents Kosma and Titika and sisters Pelagia and Basiliki. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 5th, 2012 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 AM to go the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 651 Beverly Ave., for the Funeral Service held at 11:00 AM presided by Rev. Fr. Nikolaos Tambakis. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with Prayers being offered at 7:00 PM that evening in the Chapel of the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Thunder Bay. We would like to thank the caring staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital.
