ANDREW ULMANIS Obituary

ANDREW ULMANIS
Andy passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2023 with his daughters, whom he called number 1, 2 and 3, by his side. He was born in Latvia on February 18th, 1938 and he immigrated to Canada in 1945. He met the love of his life, Lory Boudreau, at a Kakabeka Legion dance, and married her in 1959. Together they lived most of their lives in Westfort, where he was most comfortable and was proud to call it home. Our father was a humble, kind and generous man. He was always up for a beer on his patio with anyone who stopped by. He could always be found puttering in his yard. He was very proud to have won 2nd place in the Thunder Bay Pond and Garden Show. His man made pond was spectacular. In the mid 1970's he started his employment as a truck driver with Lakehead Freightways, which is now Manitoulin, where he retired in 2004. He was member of the Moose Lodge for 64 years. During this time he enjoyed being the Entertainment Chairman organizing many successful events. There was absolutely no procrastination in his world. If something needed to be done it had to be done NOW. Once he appointed a delegate he immediately became Supervisor and questioned every step of the process. Andy is survived by his daughters, Tammy Bryan (Brian), Shelley Stewardson (Neil), and Marjorie Ulmanis (David). Also survived by grandchildren, Sheleigh Dika, Glen Dika, Steven Dika, Ashley Fretz and Nolan Stewardson and 2 great grandaughters, as well as his sister Tamara Corsie (British Columbia). Predeceased by wife Lory and grandson Corey Hakli. Thank you to Dr. Echum and the staff of 7 South at Hogarth Riverview Manor for taking care of our father over the past 2 years. A special thank you to Elizabeth Hutchinson, Nurse Practitioner, for the excellent care she provided to dad over the years. A private family service will be held at a later date with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

I worked with Andy for years. One memory was Andy taking me to his home for lunch that was not a normal half hour soup and sandwich stop. When he retired I missed his smile and sense of humour. He always had some funny story about the past. Sorry for your loss and my condolences to the family.
