ANDRZEJ LIS Obituary

ANDRZEJ (ANDREW) LIS
Andrzej (Andrew) Lis, age 67, passed away on April 9th, 2024 at TBRHSC. Andrzej was born in Swidnica, Poland. He immigrated to Canada in 1981 in hopes of a better future for himself and his future family, and shortly after, in 1982, met the love of his life, Sophie.

After working various smaller jobs, he took a computer and design program at the college that ultimately led him to his career of over 30 years at Bombardier.

He retired in 2018, at which time he became twice as busy with all of his passions and projects at home and around his beloved property. A passionate designer and artist, he always had 100 projects on the go - from his ever-evolving greenhouse and garden, to building and adding to his forever dream home, to woodworking projects for his home, church, and family. He was an advocate for continuous learning, and you could always find him in his favourite recliner reading about every possible topic, and tinkering with electronics in his hobby room. He would offer his knowledge, advice, and skill to anyone who needed help or guidance. He always spoke fondly when reminiscing about "those days" of hunting adventures with "the gang", and camping and fishing trips with family and close friends. He was always very involved in his childrens' activities and sports, always having his signature spot in the viewing benches, and attended every tournament and early morning training session.

He was a longtime and active member of St. Mary Queen of Poland Church.

He will be lovingly remembered yet terribly missed by his wife of 37 years, Sophie, children Monique (Luke) Freund, and Paul; sister Cesia Stelmach (Ed) in Poland, nephew Rafal and family, and niece Alina Bujalska and family in Germany; Mother-in-Law Czeslawa Grabowy; cousin Veronika (Ed) Simon-Tymkow; sisters-in-law Mary (Joe) Bigder, Agnes Grabowy, and Stella (Andrew) Richard; as well as all of his nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. He was also the beloved Dziadziu to his granddaughter and best little buddy, Rya Freund, who would make him glow like nothing else ever has.

He was predeceased by his parents Bronislaw and Feliksa Lis and his father-in-law Pawel Grabowy.

Funeral Services for Andrzej will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. to St. Mary Our Lady Queen of Poland Church, 93 Algoma Street North, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Piotr Dudek at 11:00 a.m. A private entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with vigil prayers being offered at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Andrzej's memory may be made to St. Mary Our Lady Queen of Poland Church, or the Northern Cardiac Fund.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at TBRHSC, especially those in ICU, for their care and support during this difficult time.

Sophie and family, the world dimmed when we heard of Andrew´s passing. I will miss talking with him about gardening, fishing and hunting as well as all the projects he was working on. He always gave a bit of himself when he shared his famous smoke garlic sausage. Our condolences. His light remains.

I was very saddened to hear of Andrew´s passing. He was a wonderful neighbour on Goods Rd when my late husband and I lived there, and was a kind and caring man ready to help anyone that needed it. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to Sophie, Monique and Paul and their families. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sophie, Monique and Paul, and all of your family; We were so shocked and saddened to hear that Andrew has passed away! He was a very fine man, a wonderful neighbour to us for many years! We have countless warm memories of his kindheartedness to our family. He loved to work with his hands, was very skilled and talented. Andrew was always willing to share his knowledge and help others. He was strong and kind and had a wonderful sense of humour and will certainly be missed.
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you at the very difficult time.

Sophie and family - extending my condolences on the loss of Andrew. I worked at Bombardier in Engineering with Andrew and will always remember how proud he was of his family. We talked a lot about Monique attending university to become an optometrist and his travels to visit wherever she was. He had a great sense of humour and I will always remember his smile. My sympathy to you all.
