Angus MacDonald

The family of Angus Alexander (Alistair) MacDonald are saddened to announce his passing. Dad died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep, on March 23rd at Bethammi.Alistair was born 10 July 1925 in Port Arthur, the only child of Norman and Barbara MacDonald. He lived almost his whole life in the house that he was born in, only moving to long-term care a few years ago, when he broke his hip and was confined to a wheelchair. He married the former Jean McNaughton in 1947, and together they raised 3 children - Margaret Anne, Ian Norman and Donald Grant. Alistair worked in the office at Shaw Bakery, Fitzsimmons and Lecocq's, retiring in 1990. Alistair believed in giving his time to help others - he was very involved with the International Order of Oddfellows and Rebekahs, serving as Noble Grand and District Deputy Grand Master of Lodge 244 and Past Chief Patriarch of Superior Encampment 78. He was a long time member of the IOOF Humanitarian Services Committee, and was a member of Amethyst Rebekah Lodge 106. He also was a member of Shuniah Masonic Lodge. He served St Paul's United Church as a member of the official board, the worship committee and the board of trustees.Alistair is survived by his family - Marg Ogden and her daughters Laura and Heather; Ian and his sons Murray and Jeffrey; and Donald Grant (Valorie) and his children Valissa, Michael and Victoria. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Betty Gillis and Joyce Snowdon and their families, great-grandchildren and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and in 1995 by his beloved wife, Jean.In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place, and the family will hold an interment service at Riverside Cemetery this summer. Per Dad's request, the family ask that any memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St Paul's United Church Memorial fund, or a charity of your choice.
