ANGUS MORRISON Obituary

1928 ~ 2025 It is with profound sadness that the family of Angus (Gus) Morrison announce his passing on the morning of Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Gus was born, a Christmas baby, to David and Mary Anne Morrison (née Wilson) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on December 25, 1928, one of eight children.

Following graduation from Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute, Gus moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to work, and lived with his sister Annie for a time before accepting a pattern maker apprenticeship with AMSCO Cast Products (Canada) Inc. in Selkirk, Manitoba. It was in Selkirk where he met his "beautiful wife", Florence Emily Goodmanson, and they were married on September 18, 1954. Their first son, Angus, was born in Selkirk and shortly after, Gus secured a pattern maker position with the Port Arthur Shipbuilding Company. Gus and Emily welcomed two more children, Ian and Shawne, during their early years in Current River. Gus later moved to Great Lakes Paper where he enjoyed many happy years building patterns for their paper machines and any other woodworking projects the company needed.
Gus was very proud of his trade and appreciated those who showed interest in his unique work and personal creations. Family and friends have been blessed with receiving many special items from Gus, from his personal layered wood lathe bowls and jewellery boxes to his furniture and assistance with home renovation work. We will cherish these always.

Gus was always active and enjoyed running, swimming, waterskiing and volunteering; coaching his kids' sports teams, umpiring baseball games and officiating at track and field meets. Prior to and following retirement, Gus and Emily enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, Florida, Arizona and the United Kingdom. They continued to remain active in their later years, playing badminton and could often be seen enjoying their daily walk around Boulevard Lake and Current River.

Gus had a memory sharp as a tack and delighted his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with stories of his youth on the prairies, his time in Selkirk with Nan and his impressive career. We have been so lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with you in your woodshop and learn your craft and will carry your skills forward in your memory. You are forever in our hearts and will live though your family always.

Gus will be lovingly remembered by his children: Angus (Sue Ann) Morrison, Ian (Barb) Morrison, Shawne Gilliam (Bruce Karasiewicz); grandchildren: Jacinth (Rob) Gilliam-Price, Ryne (Jessica) Gilliam, Ian (Ashley) Morrison, Andrea (Paolo) Lento, and Mariah Morrison; and especially the pride and joy of his life, his great-grandchildren: Edelweiss and Orrin Price, Liam Morrison, Gunnar Gilliam, and Clara Lento. Also left to mourn is one brother, Robert of Saskatoon, and many nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by his beloved wife, Emily; granddaughter, Meagan (Tam) Fryer; and son-in-law, Ryne Gilliam.

A hundred years from now it will not matter the sort of house I lived in or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be better because I was important in the life of a child.
As per Gus' wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held.

Dear Shawne and family
So saddened to read of your dad´s passing.
Gus was a friendly man who we enjoyed chatting to on our walks around the neighbourhood, especially Boulevard Lake. Your mom and dad were both lovely people.
He will be missed, may his memory be a blessing.
Thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

Angus, Ian, Shawne & Morrison family

Our deepest condolences for the loss of your Dad. We have many memories of both your parents during our days at Rugged Air. Gus always had a joke or story to tell, sharp witted and very talented with his wood work. Both your parents enjoyed the simple things in life, great people and always fun when in their company. She was so proud of her children & grandchildren. Always there for each of you lending a hand and your dad was never without some sort of project on the go.
We had many fun times together and they are both deeply missed.
Our prayers are with all of you during this difficult time, he lived a good long life and for that we must all must be grateful
