Anna Racic Obituary

It is with most profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Racic on August 16, 2021. Born November 8,1927 in Port Arthur, she was the devoted daughter of John and Marija Filipovic. Anna attended St. Andrew's School, PACI and business college. She had a strong work ethic and began her work career at the family business (Princess Hotel) and went on to work at the Bank of Montreal after completing business college. She met George Racic and they married on September 6, 1952, and thus began her life as a devoted wife, mother and Baba. She worked tirelessly over the years to raise 5 children and yet found time to become a fabulous cook, take lessons for ceramics, painting, Chinese cooking and to work at the Croatian hall serving on their executive for most of her life. George and Anna did their share of travelling and in their latter years settled into a groove of going to Vegas twice yearly where they always returned with a rich array of stories and occasionally some of Vegas' money. At the tender age of 79, Anna was diagnosed with colon cancer and was able to fight the battle to become cancer free in her 80th year. She finally retired from working at the Croatian hall at age 91. Nothing gave Anna greater joy than to have her family together for a meal and then have a spirited game of cards afterwards. We often joked about cards being a blood sport in our family especially when Mom would sit in the weeds and inevitably produce the ace of trump at a crucial moment and we would laugh at her coquettish grin as she scooped up the spoils of war. Anna had the most delicious sense of humour and although she's gone her legacy lives on through her 5 children and their children so you're never too far from the wonderful spirit she had. She was selfless and devoted and we were truly blessed to have had a wonderful role model and we will all miss her terribly. Anna is survived by her 5 children, Nick (Mary Jane), Rick (Catherine), Mike, Marlene and Susan Pascoe. Grandchildren, Chandra, Natalie, Rob, Lauren & Anabel. Predeceased by her loving husband George, parents John & Marija, Filipovic, brothers Nick, John and Frank. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday August 20th, 2021 in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Luigi Filippini presiding. Those wishing to attend the service may do so by registering on Anna's page at www.sargentandson.com or by calling 345-5351. The interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

I have nothing but wonderful memories of Anna Racic that make me smile every time I think of her. I am Eva's Sliskovic's daughter, and Anna was my godmother. As a little girl, I adored her .. she always made me giggle. I have thought of her often ... and smiled.
