February 16, 1940 - December 11, 2025
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Anne Gojsic on December 11, 2025. Anne (a.k.a. Baba) was born in the city of Fort William (Thunder Bay) on Feb 16, 1940. The daughter of Harry (1969) and Margaret Waplak (née Sawchuk) 1991. She grew up in the east-end on McLeod St with her twin brothers Harry (1961) & Walter (August 2025) and youngest brother Jerry (August 2010). The family home was always full of guests, either immigrants from eastern Europe or family from Manitoba out visiting. At the age of 24, Anne married Joseph Gojsic on May 30 1964 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay). They moved into Banning St in Port Arthur and started a family, welcoming Steve in October 1964. From Banning St they moved in 1967 to their own home at 233 Ray Blvd where they welcomed their 2nd son Mike in September 1967. They remained there until Joe's retirement, then they moved to Penticton, BC in 1992 to start a new chapter in their lives. In BC, they enjoyed their home on Duncan Ave, gardening and travelling. In 2004 they moved to their condo on Halifax St and enjoyed making new friends in the building. By 2005 they became grandparents, when Mike met and married Hiroko (née Hosono) and started a family., welcoming Hiroki Joseph May 2006, Kanjyu Thomas January 2008 and Kanta Lucas August 2011. Anne and Joe enjoyed visiting their grandchildren on the coast and their visits to Penticton. In their later years they stopped travelling and stayed closer to home. In 2017 Joe started to slow down and became forgetful, and Anne gracefully took on the role of caregiver to him. By 2018 this added pressure and full-time care caused both to be admitted to the hospital, with Anne recovering during that stay, but Joe declining and passing away in July 2018. Afterwards, Anne found new strength and enjoyed years of independent living on her own, with friends and close family. At heart she was a minimalist and lived simply, removing stuff in her home, giving away or throwing out what she deemed unnecessary, maybe either through precognition or self-fulfilling of things to come. This year she began not eating much, and became easily tired. By thanksgiving she looked jaundiced and went to see the doctor. Pancreatic cancer was the diagnosis. The last 2 months of her life were spent in and out of the hospital, finally taking rest at the Penticton Moog & Friends Hospice, where she passed. Her catholic faith and belief in Jesus stayed with her until the end.
