Anne Irvine Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Anne Irvine announces her passing on June 20, 2022 at the age of 90. Anne came into this world on December 16, 1931 in Pine River, Manitoba, the tenth in line of 13 children born to Nick and Rose (nee Anderchuk) Matkowski. She thoroughly enjoyed learning at school as well as her life on the family farm. In her early twenties, she moved to Black Sturgeon, Ontario to join two of her siblings in the logging camp kitchens; it was here where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Irvine. They married on June 19, 1954 and were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Growing up on the farm, Anne learned many resourceful skills that she carried with her into adulthood. She knitted and sewed clothing by hand for her children and tended to her gardens, often preserving and canning the harvests to enjoy throughout the cold winter months. She was a hobbyist woodworker and carpenter who liked to construct furniture and cabinets for her family. Anne was very family-oriented and was delighted when she became a grandma and great-grandma. When she got the opportunity to travel, she enjoyed reconnecting with family across Canada and took trips to cheer on her grandchildren at their hockey games. She will be forever remembered as a compassionate and non-judgmental listener and a hardworking woman with a sharp eye for detail. She remained ever humble and never sought praise. Anne is survived by her four children and their spouses: Vivian (Bryan) Heppler, Raymond (Melanie Madigan) Irvine, Debbie (Scott) Goodwin, and Richard (Malissa) Irvine; eleven grandchildren: Ryan (Marianne), Alyssa (Steven), Kayley (Marc), Cody, Devan (Celeste), Brandon, Amanda (Adam), Nigel (Yasmine), Eliza, Bryson, and Bryttney; and eight great-grandchildren: Brody, Laine, Cale, Grayson, Ella, Jacob, Reid, and Rhett. She was predeceased by her husband Bill and all twelve siblings. The family wishes to recognize Dr. Simpson, the LHIN, and the VON nursing staff who were so kind and caring during Anne's illness. Additionally, the family is forever in gratitude for the support from extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Presbyterian Church. The service will be livestreamed via Sargent & Son's Facebook page. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Contributions in her memory would be greatly appreciated to TBRHSC – Northern Cancer Fund.
