Ansgar Stenlund Obituary

STENLUND Ansgar "Oscar" Stenlund passed away on Thursday September 3, 2009 at the age of 87. He was born in Grong, Norway, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 3 with his family. He was raised in Hurkett, Ontario. He served overseas during World War 11 with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles "Little Black Devils", and was wounded in action in Germany. He owned and operated a school bus for the Red Rock Public School Board for several years while also cutting pulpwood. He later worked for the Domtar Mill in Red Rock and retired in 1984. He was a proud Canadian and an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1962. In his earlier years, he took pleasure in playing the accordion, working with wood and hunting. Ansgar was confronted with many health obstacles over his life, however he always soldiered on with a positive outlook. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as a cup of coffee and conversation with friends and family. He will be sadly missed by his surviving family; wife Maire; sons, Rizvan (Maxine) and Allan; daughters Linda and Diana (Carl); grandchildren Svea (Ivan), Aaron (Rachel), Garrett, Allan, Scott, Marina, Melody, Lars and Carsten; great grandchildren Madison and Alexa; brother Victor, along with several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by mother Albertina, father Hugo, brothers Holger, Erling, Fritz, Henry and Gus; grandchildren Andrew and Anders. His family and friends will always remember his smile, sense of humour and good nature. A gathering to celebrate our "hero" was held with family and friends at Legion Branch 5, 229 Van Norman St. on Tuesday September 8th, 2009."
