ANTHONY PIGAT Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Pigat on Thursday, February 22, 2024 with his daughters by his side.

Tony was born in Azzano Decimo, Italy on September 1, 1932 to parents Ines and Giacinto. He left home as a young teenager to work and help provide for his parents and siblings. He moved to Sardinia, where he found his love for carpentry and construction.

In search of a better life, Tony eventually moved to Fort William, Ontario, where he had family who previously immigrated. His strong work ethic and determination helped him find work in the construction industry immediately, and it was not long before he partnered with George Lannon, his lifelong mentor and friend, and established the company that he ran until his death, Shore Bay Estates. The two of them built thousands of houses, dozens of apartments, and numerous subdivisions in Thunder Bay throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Eventually, upon George's retirement, his son Art, took his place in the partnership and together they established River Terrace Developments, Tony's proudest accomplishment. Up until last year, Tony loved driving through the subdivision and admiring his life's work.

Although Tony had much success in the construction industry, his childhood dream was to be a farmer. He owned several rural properties over the years, where he would indulge in his love of gardening and raising livestock.

Tony is survived by his three daughters Lorraine (Mario Michieli), Eileen (Chris Kelos), Lisa (Jim Muccilli) and their mother Maria Chies. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Bianca (David), Jenna (Marko), Gabriella (Adam), and Nicholas (Elizabeth). Tony was lucky enough to spend time with his great-grandson Joseph, who brought him an immense amount of joy.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Coccimiglio and the staff at Pioneer Ridge, the nurses in the ICU and ER, and especially the nurses and staff on 3A. Fittingly, Tony passed away peacefully on the wing of the hospital named after his company.

Funeral service will be held at St. Anthony's Church (123 Hilldale Road) on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Department of Advancement at Confederation College" in memory of Tony Pigat. A bursary will be established in his name for the General Carpenter Apprentice program.

My condolences to Tony´s families.
Tony was an intelligent man and had a vision for construction and building homes and subdivisions.
I started my carpenters apprenticeship through his company I was 17 years old.
We worked on many houses . He gave me an inspiration to continue my career in this field.
He was always willing to help me and even gave us our first apartment to live in when we first got married.
I´ll always remember him giving me an opportunity to start my trade.
My prayers and thoughts are with the families .
Rest in peace Tony

Tony built a beautiful home for us in 1970. Always willing to have a full discussion on moving a wall (a little) or using the best windows and making sure the foundation was flawless. A great man in his plain blue pickup on the job until dark! He´ll be missed many ways. Best wishes to the family!

Our sincere condolences to the family, I got to know a bit of Tony when my then girlfriend (now) wife lived at Bay Shore Estates. Years passed then this nice man come into our farm one evening looking to purchase hay for his heard, he mentioned his name as only "Tony" we set up an appointment as to where he would come on Sundays and get 1-2 bales. He did this for some time, until one day he called me and asked for a favour. Seems he was stuck in his driveway by the barn, so I went to help him out. Later that week he come by with his gratification and 2 bottles of his wine. It was then at that moment as we sat talking over things and he went into his accomplishments in life as we shared a bit of our life that I learned his last name and he remembered my wife from years past. He went on to say how proud he was to have his girls and their spouses work with him in construction and housing projects. I miss his visits and chats. A very nice man he was. To his family.... Hold your chests high as to say he was your father. Anytime I drive by his properties I often think of him. May he rest his hands now, "Tony" your will take it from here.
